So now onto Sunday and the “Hopper”. The “Hopper” event is a randomly (based on available equipment) generated workout designed to test all the competitors. For the ECCFC it was a beast of a workout:
Beginning with a 1000m Row
Followed by 5 rounds of:
21 Sumo Dead Lift High Pull (Men 95#/ Women 65#),
15 Burpees, and
9 Thrusters (Men 95#/Women 65#)
There was a 20 minute cap because the organizers knew many people wouldn't finish it, what they didn't think was that no one would complete it. But it was a great workout and everyone else seemed to agree. That's what CrossFit is all about, pushing your body and mind to the limit…mission accomplished!
My plan was to go steady on the row and then complete as many rounds as I could. The row went to plan and I managed to finish 3 complete rounds plus 21 SDLHP, 15 Burpees and 3 Thrusters. The last thrusters were a real challenge.
I finished 14th in the Hopper and this gave me a final position of 13th overall. I was very happy with the result. I learnt a lot and met some great people over the weekend. A great event and well worth going back to next year!
